Fitness games were relatively unheard of before the Wii Fit came along and changed everything. With its revolutionary balance board, Nintendo somehow managed to combine video games with getting fit! Since then, Wii Fit has been enhanced and added to with the release of Wii Fit Plus. But is it worth your time, money and effort?

What Do You Get With The Wii Fit Plus With Balance Board?

If you never bought the original Wii Fit and balance board then this is the package to get! You’ll get the game along with the revolutionary balance board that brought so many people into the new world of fitness gaming.

Some of the features of this package include:

The balance board that can measure your movements and weight,

The new improved Wii Fit Plus game,

Four game categories: Aerobic, Balance, Yoga and Strength,

Work with a personal trainer as you learn how to perform each exercise,

As you improve and play for longer you’ll unlock new activities or increase the number of reps for each exercise,

Wii Fit Plus brings several new features such as routines and specific areas of focus (see below).

How Does Wii Fit Plus Compare To The Original Wii Fit?

If you already have the original Wii Fit then you can get the upgrade simply by buying the software on its own without the balance board. This game does include the original content of the Wii Fit, but adds a whole other level of gameplay. Some of the new features include mixing and matching strength and yoga activities, and flowing exercises together seamlessly for an effective daily workout routine.

Other new features include:

A much larger range of customization options,

“My Routine” allows you to put together your own routines,

“Favorites” is a collection of workouts you use the most,

15 new balance games,

6 new strength and yoga activities,

Users can choose which area of health and fitness to focus on,

See how many calories you’ve burned,

New feature allows users to weigh their cats and dogs.

What Customers Are Saying About Wii Fit Plus

The product has received generally positive reviews, with customers noting how the new game has addressed many of the shortfalls of the original Wii Fit. With the original, while novel and fun, many would soon abandon it due to the lack of ability for seamless workouts and more control over which areas to work on. Customers have mentioned how they’re now a lot more motivated to continue exercising with the Wii Fit Plus day after day.

Any Complaints?

Some customers have complained that the new games are mostly added for fun, but will not have much effect when it comes to exercising. There are only 6 new strength and yoga games to help improve fitness. The customized workouts are by far the biggest improvement, but the main drawback of this is that they do not include the aerobic or balance activities.

Conclusion

When the original Wii Fit first made its way into stores it was all we had. However, since then fitness games have come a long way. Many people considered the original Wii Fit too basic to hold their interest, and the new Wii Fit Plus goes a long way to addressing those issues. If you don’t already own the balance board then there’s no reason to buy the old version over this new improved one. However, if you already own a balance board then it’s up to you to compare Wii Fit Plus to other fitness games on the market to find one that matches your aims and interests.

The Xbox 360 is the second video games console to be released by Microsoft, following the previous Xbox. The Xbox Live service means that users will have the ability to connect to the online store and download arcade games or compete with others across the internet, which is a feature that helps set this console apart from its nearest rivals. The latest version is the Xbox 360 Elite, slightly higher in price than classic versions of the console.

Features of the Xbox 360

250 GB hard drive,

HD ready,

Xbox 360 headset,

Wireless connectivity available with the purchase of a separate network adapter,

Wireless controllers,

Ethernet connectivity.

Pros of the Xbox 360

Like the Playstation 3, games on the Xbox 360 are displayed in excellent graphics and high definition. The Xbox Live online gaming system is also perfect for those who are a fan of online support – surpassing that given by the Playstation 3. Another feature where the Xbox 360 excels over the PS3 is with its backward compatibility with all original Xbox titles.

On top of this, the new Xbox 360 processer is cooler, quieter and less demanding on power than previous versions. The dashboard is easy to use, and the console itself can serve to extend Windows Media Center.

The 360 also offers connectivity to third party media streaming services depending on the user’s location. This includes Netflix in the US, and BT Vision and Sky TV in the UK.

Cons of the Xbox 360

There are a number of famous technical problems experienced by users of the Xbox 360, notably the ‘red ring of death’ that would cause the whole system to crash. However, the problem generally affects older versions of the console, and Microsoft have also extended their warranty to three years, guaranteeing to replace faulty systems if necessary.

Unlike the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360 does not come with embedded Wi-Fi connectivity. This means that, should you want to connect wirelessly, you will need to purchase a separate wireless network adapter. The Xbox 360 also does not support the dominant form of HD disc – Blu-Ray – instead customers could previously purchase an HD-DVD add-on (which has since been abandoned after the producers of the format gave up and conceded victory to Blu-Ray).

Conclusion

In short, the Xbox 360 is a real rival to the Playstation 3, with several pros and cons. You may need to buy greater accessories for the 360, but the Live network is generally considered to be the best of its kind. For those looking for Blu-Ray support the Playstation is the obvious choice. However, the game library of the 360 is excellent, especially considering backward compatibility with original Xbox games.

The Sony Playstation 3 was released as a rival to the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360, with a number of notable differences to its predecessors in the Playstation series. The original model was succeeded by the “Slim” model, which is now the only model in production and the basis of this review.

Main Features of the Sony Playstation 3

Compatible with multiple media formats including Blu-Ray, DVDs, and CD-ROM,

New slimmer, lighter and more energy efficient design,

Built in Wi-Fi,

Available in various storage sizes: 40GB – 250GB,

Pros of the Sony Playstation 3

The design of the Playstation 3 is a real upgrade on previous versions of the console – making it a smart addition to any home. On top of this, the games also look great, compatible with high definition TVs to maximize the gaming experience, as well as providing the ability to watch Blu-Ray and DVD movies.

The interface is generally easy to use, there is a large hard drive, and there is also a free online gaming service included. Whilst the Playstation 3 originally came with a high price tag, the Slim version is now a much more affordable option for consumers.

Those who found the shiny finish of the classic PS3 a ‘fingerprint magnet’ needing constant cleaning will also be impressed with the new matte finish that is far easier to maintain.

Cons of the Sony Playstation 3

Those who have Playstation 2 games may not be happy with the fact that the PS3 doesn’t come with full backward support. Those who are interested in online gaming and other online features may also find the Playstation 3 lacking in comparison with its rival, Xbox 360.

Conclusion

In short, the Slim version of the Sony Playstation 3 has resulted in a sleeker look, which is also (as the name suggests) slimmer, lighter and more energy efficient. When comparing the Slim version with the classic Playstation 3, you might be put off by fewer USB ports and a lack of media card slots. However, many users put up with these changes for the positive adjustments and, most notably, reduction in price that has made it available to a wider audience.

The multimedia features are a huge bonus for those who don’t want to spend extra on a Blu-Ray player, but have the means to view HD with a High Definition television. And, for those who don’t need the PS2 backward compatibility, the PS3 is an excellent console in its own right.

The Sony Reader Touch Edition is the latest in a line of eBook readers from Sony. This newest model promises a sleek, ultra-thin design that looks great and also has the functionality you need. This is a noticeable upgrade from the previous PRS700 model, tackling a few of its issues.

Features of the Sony Reader Touch PRS600

6.9 x 4.8 x 0.4 inches,

10.1 ounces,

Supports ePub, PDF, TXT, RTF, Microsoft Word, BBeB, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, MP3, and AAC formats,

Supports RSS feeds,

6 inch e-Ink display,

Comes in black, silver and red versions,

512 MB memory (350 eBooks) with SD card expansion up to 16GB.

Pros of the Sony Reader Touch PRS600

The Sony Reader Touch does as its name suggests – provides touch screen features that help to make using the reader more natural than with other models. A simple touch will allow you to turn the page naturally and to forget that you’re reading from a screen as opposed to a book.

If you have a number of PDF files, the reflow function of the Sony Reader will help them to display better than they would on other eBook models. Users are also able to benefit from functions allowing access to free Google books and eBooks on loan at local libraries.

A built in dictionary has now been added as an improvement to older versions of the Sony Reader. Other functions are also useful for reading a variety of files, including Microsoft Word, and the expandable memory means that it can store a huge number of eBooks.

Cons of the Sony Reader Touch PRS600

One of the main complaints with previous Sony model PRS700 is that the screen was hard to read in some conditions as it reflected light. The PRS600 is a marked improvement, however glare is still an issue due to the touch screen, and the contrast of the display isn’t as strong as other models on the market.

Other eBook readers, such as Nook and Kindle, benefit from the fact that a PC isn’t needed to download eBooks. However, the Sony Reader PRS600 is lacking this feature, meaning that a computer is required in order to transfer files. The USB charging option also only works with PCs.

Conclusion

The Sony Reader Touch PRS600 looks undeniably sleek, and is a great size for an eBook reader. However, users who have a difficult time reading from screens may find the glare and contrast settings an issue. For most users, however, the Sony Reader provides a great alternative to other big name readers on the market, just without the added function of wireless connectivity.

As an alternative to Amazon’s original Kindle, which is still available with global wireless access, Amazon decided to release a model that would cater towards those with a little extra money to spend on a larger screen. There may be a few added features, but is the Kindle DX really worth the added expense?

Features of the Amazon Kindle DX

9.7 inch e-Ink display,

10.4 x 7.2 x 0.4 inches in size,

Built in keyboard and speakers,

1.1 lbs,

Built in PDF reader,

3.3GB memory,

Supports DOC, PDF, RTF, TXT, HTML, PRC, BMO, GIF, PNG, JPEG and MP3,

3G wireless connectivity to the Kindle store.

Pros of the Amazon Kindle DX

For those outside of the US who were wondering when the Kindle and Kindle DX would become available, the good news is that the wireless connection now works in a number of countries around the world – however, customers will still need to buy from Amazon.com and pay for international shipping.

The major benefit of choosing the DX model over the traditional Kindle is that the screen is 2.5 times the size, making it far easier to read books and even broadsheet newspapers than ever before. This is especially useful for those who tend to read large print books. The larger screen means that books, documents and websites can be read in a way that they were intended, rather than breaking off in the middle of sentences due to size restrictions.

The DX has excellent support for PDF files, and it is easy to transfer documents from your computer. Other added functions include rotation of the screen from portrait to landscape, and a larger storage capacity than the traditional Kindle.

Though other devices, such as the Apple iPad, offer more features than the Kindle DX at a similar price, the e-Ink screen still makes this device favorable for those who want a more relaxing reading experience that doesn’t strain the eyes.

Cons of the Amazon Kindle DX

It’s a given that the DX is going to be more expensive than the standard Kindle – in fact, it’s more expensive than many other readers on the market. However, it does have some added features to help make up for this fact.

The fact that the Kindle is larger may be added value for money, but there have been some complaints that it is also heavier.

Despite the larger storage space, some people may be put off by the fact that the DX doesn’t have support for external storage. There is still no Wi-Fi for the Kindle, the battery is sealed into the back and you will be charged extra if you download overseas.

Conclusion

If you’re thinking about buying a reader that is as comfortable as possible on the eyes then the Kindle DX may well be the one for you. With fantastic e-Ink display technology, and a screen much larger than traditional eBook readers, eBooks look more like real books. However, if you’re worried about price and the features you’re going to get, you might consider comparing the Kindle DX to the latest offerings such as Apple’s iPad.

The Barnes and Noble Nook should be an eBook reader to rival the Amazon Kindle. With features such as a built in library of eBooks, Wi-Fi connectivity and full-text browsing whilst in Barnes and Noble stores, the Nook has a lot of what the Kindle has to offer and promises even more. But does it deliver?

Features of the Barnes and Noble Nook

7.7 x 4.9 x 0.5 inches in size,

12.1 ounces,

3.5 inch color touch screen LCD,

E-Ink paper-link display,

Up to ten days battery life,

2GB storage with expandable slot,

Photo galleries,

Supports ePub, PDF, PDB, JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP and MP3 files.

Pros of the Barnes and Noble Nook

The Barnes and Noble Nook comes with many of the features that consumers love about the Amazon Kindle – a big library that includes thousands of eBooks, newspaper and magazines. It also has the same benefit of built in wireless access, including added Wi-Fi abilities. When in Barnes and Noble stores, customers will have the unique ability of being able to browse the text of books in full.

The color touch screen is what sets the Nook apart from other readers in terms of its aesthetics, and the expandable memory is extremely useful if you fill up the memory that is included (already able to store around 1,500 books).

The Nook also includes a number of useful functions that help to take it beyond being a basic eBook reader. Users can customize their screen savers and create unique photo galleries, listen to MP3 files, make notes and read books from local libraries. An extra added benefit is the ability to lend eBooks to friends who own the Nook, completely free of charge, for up to 14 days.

Cons of the Barnes and Noble Nook

Since the release of the product, Barnes and Noble have been plagued with complaints regarding issues with creating bookmarks, loading the device, turning pages and the general user interface. Thankfully, Barnes and Noble quickly worked to release firmware upgrades that tackled the problems. However, users have still complained that page turns and loading times aren’t as fast as they could be. Another disadvantage is that it’s not possible to download eBooks when outside of the US, despite the Wi-Fi connectivity.

Conclusion

In terms of access to an online bookstore when within the US, the Barnes and Noble Nook goes some way into becoming a true rival for the Kindle. It’s color touch screen panel makes it look great, however, this doesn’t make up for some of the slower loading times that users could experience when they use the product. The ‘lending’ feature of the Nook really sets it apart from other models, however the life of this function will depend upon how many eBook publishers allow for this feature to be implemented at all.

As soon as Apple announced the release of the iPad, it was all anyone was talking about. All jokes about the name aside, the iPad caused a division between those who saw it as a turning point in portable computers and eBook readers, and those who saw it as simply unnecessary. Is the iPad just an expensive gadget that we don’t really need? Or is it the revolution in portable computing that we’ve all been waiting for?

Features of the Apple iPad

Available in 16GB/ 32GB and 34GB varieties,

Available with Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G,

9.7 inch LED backlit display,

Choice of 150,000 apps,

Touch screen,

Download free iBooks (Apple’s new eBook format),

Multiple functions including web browsing, emails, eBook reading, video, music, calendar and more.

Pros of the Apple iPad

For those who already use and love the iPhone and iPod, the good news is that the iPad will also make use of the apps you already have, as well as giving you access to the App Store with a choice of thousands more. Many of the navigational features have also been transferred from these devices to the new iPad, making it extremely easy to use for those who are familiar with them. This includes the buttons and ports around the edges of the device.

3G connectivity is a bonus for those times when you’re outside of a Wi-Fi zone (however, you have to make sure to purchase the 3G model). 3G plans are provided through the AT&T network and do not have a minimum contract term, allowing you to keep things flexible.

There are a huge range of features available on the iPad, meaning that it is a fantastic solution for both business and pleasure. Although standalone eBook readers are including more and more features all the time, they can’t beat the iPad.

Cons of the Apple iPad

With a backlit LED display, one of the major differences between the iPad and standard eBook readers is that this screen is not as easy on the eye. If you’re thinking of buying an iPad solely as a way of reading electronic books, then you might want to think again. However, the screen does look fantastic when using the other iPad functions.

There’s also no getting around the fact that the iPad is expensive – especially when you buy the 3G option with the added choice of a monthly data plan. However, when compared to eBook readers such as the Kindle DX, it doesn’t cost too much more considering its extra functionality.

Some are also complaining that the iPad isn’t much more than a large iPod Touch, which is certainly true on many levels. The Touch can already do most of what’s available on the iPad, and as such Touch owners may not be Apple’s target market.

Aside from these overall concerns, some other complaints also include the fact that the browser doesn’t support flash, the data plans are expensive on top of the costs of the device, and there is no camera.

Conclusion

The main issues over the iPad involve just where it’s place in the market really is. Many argue that most simply won’t be willing to spend $500+ on what is, essentially, an extra computer. However, for those who want the convenience of being able to carry their business and entertainment wherever they go, the iPad provides an exciting new medium.

The Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill is designed as a long term investment for your home. It’s been carefully crafted for quality, and its cooking area allows for 18 burgers, 36 hot dogs, or two whole chickens at a time.

For those who want a high quality grill that will last a long time, with consistent cooking temperatures and an easy set up, that’s suitable for family cooking, how does it live up to its claims?

Features Of The Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill

Comes with two stainless steel burners,

Electronic ignition,

Measures 22 x 36.5 x 55.5 inches with the lid open and tables folded down,

Input of 21,700 BTU-per-hour,

Infinite-control burner valves,

Cast-aluminum body,

462 square inches of cooking space, and a 69 square inch warming rack,

5 year warranty,

Uses a standard 20-pound propane tank,

2 folding worktables with hooks for BBQ tools,

Comes with recipe booklet and stationary cart.

Benefits Of The Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill

This grill has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from customers, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars (across just under 200 reviews) on Amazon.com.

Many of the customer reviews have commented on just how easy the grill is to light, with its electronic ignition, and that it heats up well to become a great cooking platform. Another point of praise is that the Q 320 leaves perfect grill lines on the meat, enhancing the flavor and the overall grilling experience.

The cast iron grill surface is also a major benefit. It has been split into two to make for a large cooking area that’s also easier to take apart and clean when you need to. And the gaps between the grates are small enough to prevent most foods slipping through.

The grill is ]extremely easy to set up, even for one person setting it up alone. The general consensus from customers who have bought and used the grill is that it’s a very well thought out design that’s suitable for family use. Weber have also responded to many of the feature requests of their older models by adding in a warming shelf and electronic ignition.

Drawbacks Of The Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill

Unlike previous Weber models, the Weber Q 320 doesn’t make use of any flavor bars to help replicate that smoky flavor that a charcoal grill leaves behind. While this may be a drawback to some customers, many have commented that it doesn’t make any difference to flavor, and the benefits of using a gas grill far outweigh any drawbacks.

Some customers have commented negatively on the use of plastic for areas of the grill such as the side tables, legs and handle.

Depending on the type of grills you’re used to, the price may put you off. However, for a well-designed grill a few hundred dollars isn’t much to pay, especially when you consider the rate at which you’d have to replace cheaper, lower quality gas grills. And the Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Propane Gas Grill is one of the most highly rated within its price band.

When it comes to GPS gadgets for runners, Garmin is one of the most well known and popular brands out there. This watch boasts a huge range of features beyond just basic tracking, especially when connected to your computer for detailed statistics. But does it really live up to the hype?

Features Of The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor

High-sensitivity GPS receiver designed to look like a watch,

Can be used for running, walking, cycling, cross-country skiing and windsurfing,

Weighs 2.72 ounces,

Measures heart rate, speed, distance, pace and calories burned,

1,000 lap memory,

1.3 x 0.8 inches display,

Waterproof,

Battery life of up to 10 hours,

Strong signal reception,

Training Center software for detailed analysis,

Data can be analyzed with Motionbased for online mapping and route sharing,

1 year warranty.

What you’ll get in the box:

The Forerunner 305 GPS unit,

A heart rate monitor,

Wrist strap,

Docking cradle,

AC charger,

USB cable,

Training Center CD-ROM,

Quick start guide and user’s manual.

What Customers Are Saying About The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor

Most customers have praised the features of the 305, saying that it gives very good readouts for distance, heart rate sampling and average pace. You can enter personalized information about yourself to help the monitor work out how many calories you burn during a run. You can also program in laps to see split times.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor is easy to connect to your computer to view your routes, heart rate, elevation gain, distance, calories burned, your pace during different points during the run, stored data from the past and so on. You can either use the Garmin software or visit their website for even more up-to-date functionality. The software makes it easy to compare stats.

Lastly, this watch comes in at a great price when you consider the number of features and compare it to other brands out there.

Any Complaints?

Although the product is generally well reviewed, with nearly 2,000 reviews at Amazon.com, customers have mentioned that it takes a couple of minutes to synch to the satellite, which could be improved. There is also no feature that automatically switches the watch off, so battery can run low if you forget. Some customers have questioned the accuracy of certain features such as the elevation gain.

The look of the watch itself is quite chunky, meaning it’s not exactly a fashion accessory, and is a little heavy on the wrist. But this shouldn’t matter for most of the intended customers of this product.

Conclusion

In short, the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor is an invaluable tool for anyone who walks, runs or bikes and wants more detailed information about their progression in order to maximize what they do.

When it comes to portable GPS navigators, Garmin really do have a history of popular and well received gadgets. This GPS system comes with features such as tracking how much fuel you use, an easy to read, extra wide touchscreen, lane assistance, and extra features that could come in handy when you’re traveling.

Features Of The Garmin Nüvi 1450LMT 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Readable in sunlight,

EcoRoute feature to calculate most fuel efficient route and save you money,
Voice prompted directions,

Multiple point routing,

Lane assist with junction view (so you always know which lane you should be in),

Optional plug in MicroSD cards,

Other tools including world clock, JPEG viewer, currency and measurement converters and calculator.

What you get in the box:

The GPS unit,

Preloaded City Navigator NT for North America (U.S, Canada and Mexico),

Vehicle suction cup mount,

Instruction manual,

FM traffic receive and vehicle power cable,

USB cable,

Dashboard disc.

Pros Of The Garmin Nüvi 1450LMT 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

The Garmin Nüvi 1450LMT 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator doesn’t just help you where to go, although it does that very well, but it also helps you with a whole range of other things that make your drive a little less stressful. For example, its “lane assist” function will stop you wondering whether you’re in the right lane: it’ll tell you when to change lanes so that you never miss a turning.

The 1450LMT also allows you to save up to 10 routes for convenience, and lets you preview certain turns or add “via” points so that you always know exactly where you’re going.

This Nüvi comes with free lifetime map updates so you can download maps up to four times a year for free, which is a great addition to the gadget.

The extra features, such as currency conversion, are useful when you’re traveling outside of your home feature. It also comes with an emergency locator so that you’ll never find yourself lost in the middle of nowhere. The feature also directs you to the nearest hospitals, fuel stations and police stations.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

A few customers have complained that the device takes quite a long time to update, due to the large size of the map data. Customer complaints also revolve around the fact that the device periodically displays advertisements and coupons on the screen, and you have to click to make them disappear.

Other customers have picked up on the fact that newer Nüvi devices show less detail on the maps even when zoomed in, such as street names. However, this does help to reduce clutter when viewing your route by keeping fewer items on the screen.

Conclusion

This navigator, like many other in the Nüvi series, has been very well reviewed by customers. Amazon.com, for example, features over 800 reviews with an average score of 4.1 out of 5 stars for the product. For the price, it’s hard to find another reputable system with as many features as the Garmin Nüvi 1450LMT 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.
